Early Break: The Lincoln Journal Star has lots of questions for Husker football as we hit the offseason

  • Among the many questions that Sip and his colleagues are curious about are the status of Maurice Washington; how does Nebraska use its 2 open scholarships that remain in the 2019 class; how much attrition do we expect this summer; how good will the 2020 recruiting cycle be; can the defense continue its upward trend; and more. We’ll focus on a few of these throughout the week

Early Break: Nebraska football was a trendy pick this winter to be a preseason Top 25 team come the Fall

  • do you feel like that’s the case after Spring Football?
  • It always seemed strange to have Nebraska listed that high following a 4-8 season, but that’s what a Heisman-hyped QB does, as well as a strong finish after a tough 0-6 start to the season
  • When you think of this squad, based on what we’ve seen in limited doses and also what we’ve heard…do you REALLY think they should be a preseason Top 25 team, or is there a lot of proving to do?
  • Adrian Martinez talked with BTN about the team’s level of urgency for this season

Early Break: Do you get worried about Husker football having slow start for the offense

  • Running back coach Ryan Held said Monday that the first half of practice was not good for the offense, and then they got rolling.
    • Offense wasn’t great in Saturday’s scrimmage
    • Mario Verduzco said QB’s got “Abducted by Aliens”
  • How much of Spring leaks into the fall

Early Break: Darrion Daniels compares Adrien Martinez to Patrick Mahomes… and here… we…. GO!

  • It was a packed day for Husker football, heard from various defenders, assistant coaches, and Scott Frost
  • Darrion Daniels, delivered the quote of the day when asked who he played against in the Big 12 that he’d compare Martinez to, and he said Patrick Mahomes
  • More takeaways from Monday practice

Early Break: Mike Schaefer (247 Sports/Huskers Illustrated): Part 1

  • Are you ‘in’ on all the Wan’Dale hype? Why do we always do this to ourselves?
  • Can Adrian Martinez be the leader of the whole team as a true sophomore?
  • Shut Up Sipple

Early Break: How important is it for a center to emerge as the no-doubt starter this Spring?

  • It’s one of the biggest position battles this Spring (and likely into the Fall), but we have seen some years in the past where poor play has resulted in a rotation of sorts at center—-which does no one any favors
  • The excitement for Cameron Jurgens to become a legitimate center ASAP is interesting, as some think he could become the athletic type of Dave Rimington—not saying he’d be anywhere as good, but at least a similar athlete. What could that do for the offense instead of just an OK guy?

Early Break: Spring Ball begins today! Football is BACK! What is the main goal for the next 1.5 months?

  • Jake’s biggest desire is NO INJURIES, get through Spring ball with good health for the team.
  • How much can we learn about what’s coming in the Fall from Spring ball? The media still can’t watch much of practice (90 minutes total all spring before the Red/White game), so it will mostly be from what players and coaches tell us.
    • Are you excited for the Spring ball or do you just want the fall to come already?
  • What players to watch for
