Early Break: The Lincoln Journal Star has lots of questions for Husker football as we hit the offseason

  • Among the many questions that Sip and his colleagues are curious about are the status of Maurice Washington; how does Nebraska use its 2 open scholarships that remain in the 2019 class; how much attrition do we expect this summer; how good will the 2020 recruiting cycle be; can the defense continue its upward trend; and more. We’ll focus on a few of these throughout the week

Early Break: Nebrasketball gets their first grad transfer of the Fred Hoiberg era, landing Haanif Cheatham from Florida Gulf Coast

  • Cheatham is a former top 100 player coming out of high school who started his career at Marquette, then went to Florida Gulf Coast, where last year he averaged 13.2 ppg and 4.8 rpg in 10 games before injuring his shoulder and missing the rest of the season
  • Cheatham drew interest from other solid Power 5 schools but chose Nebraska after

  • Are you convinced this season has to be bad for Nebrasketball, or could they actually be decent if they get some decent grad transfers?
  • How soon do you expect to see some commits for Abdelmassih/Gates in recruiting?

Early Break: Fred Hoiberg appeared on local radio last night…what did we learn?

  • We did learn on Thursday that Cameron Mack, the 2nd ranked player in the JUCO ranks, will come to Nebraska for a visit—-always a good sign. Also, Donovan Williams tears his ACL—NOT a good sign
  • Other news/nuggets from Hoiberg on Sports Nightly..

Early Break: Mike Schaefer (247 Sports/Huskers Illustrated): Part 1

  • What do we know about Jahkeem Green and Turner Corcoran, the 2 players to commit to Nebraska during/since the Spring Game weekend?

  • Hiring Fred Hoiberg helps the conversation, as well as committing to a large salary pool for assistants.
  • When do you start to buy in that it can happen hear? Coaches aren’t scared of the task at hand
  • More audio from coaches

Early Break: Nebraska basketball assistants speak to the media

  • Doc Sadler makes his return to Lincoln and still is glowing to the media
  • Matt Abdelmassih discussed recruiting transfers, and his relationship with Hoiberg and Sadler
  • They are trying to tamper down expectations for Year one, is there a chance this team could be decent

Early Break: Fred Hoiberg gets Jervay Green to stay committed to Nebraska…what’s next for Nebrasketball? / Shut Up Sipple

  • Green announced on Twitter on Sunday that he’s staying with Nebraska, fending off Kansas, Oregon, and other schools for his services
  • There were other players at the Spring Game for hoops on Saturday, and it must have been cool to see Fred Hoiberg throwing the bones on the field…will there be any more buzz to follow?

Early Break: Cary Cochran (Former Husker shooting guard)

  • Are you more jacked for Husker football or Husker basketball in 2019-20?
  • Will Isaiah Roby stay or go to NBA Draft? How does season expectation change with that?

Early Break: Frost says Wednesday’s practice was the best he’s had at Nebraska, Chinander says it was terrible for his defense

  • Frost was glowing about the practice, and said the offense definitely won the day, but Chinander was less than impressed with his defense, and had strong words about needing to desire to be great daily to get to a higher level. How should you read the day based on those comments?
  • The offense is set to carry the load, but if the defense is bad (as it apparently was Wednesday), then there might be issues in closing games and such. This comes back to the optics of the upcoming year…
  • Also, big commitment from Zavier Betts! Top 100 player in the 2020 class….Bellevue West
