What is your top concern this year for Husker football that might prevent them from taking the big leap that many think they’ll take?

-It can’t be just as easy as saying the defense. What part of the defense makes you bite your nails with nervousness? And is that the answer? Or could you say an injury to Adrian Martinez would be the biggest concern?

-Certainly could point to the offensive line, too, if Cam Jurgens isn’t healthy and another center isn’t good enough to hold the middle of the line together.

What player… dead or retired would you want to see today

Early Break: If Dedrick Mills doesn’t get eligible, how does that affect your confidence in the running game?

  • With Maurice Washington battling legal issues, and no certainty on when he’ll be in the clear, if at all—Mills was thought to be either the starting RB or the backup to Washington—but his former Juco coach, Jeff Sims, told Sip on Monday that Mills’ GPA still needs to get up quite a bit to be eligible at Nebraska
  • You still do have Ronald Thompkins and Rahmir Johnson coming in, but they are unproven. Mills had big success in one year at Georgia Tech, and was thought to be an impact player, despite us never seeing him in any practices here before
  • The concerns for the offense just kind of keep growing

Early Break: Dejuan Gross (Husker DB, PR)/Shut Up Sipple

  • How important is it for college players to have continuity with position coaches
  • How would you compare Heisman winner Eric Crouch to Adrian Martinez.

Early Break: How can Nebraska’s defense properly prepare for B1G opponents?

  • The snow is driving Jake crazy
    • Please make it warm so there are no more sad/angry Jake rants about the weather
  • Barrett Ruud mentioned on Tuesday that it’s important for Nebraska to be able to stop power offenses to win in the B1G. Nebraska’s offense certainly has power, but it’s not known as a ‘power’ offense.
  • Can this defense truly get ready for B1G opponents based on what they see everyday in practice, which is a lot different than Wisconsin/Iowa/other B1G programs? Frost has said they are getting more weight and muscle on guys to prevent that from happening, but it’ll always be different when going against an offense unlike Nebraska’s, right? Will they ever truly be prepared for that?
  • Also, why in the hell is there a need for lawmakers to discuss a law to ban people from getting tattoos on their eyes? WHAT PERSON THINKS OF DOING THAT IN THE FIRST PLACE?

Early Break: Parker Gabriel (Lincoln Journal Star) / Shut Up Sipple

  • Biggest takeaways from yesterday’s press conference with players, Frost, and assistant coaches?
  • Do you ever worry about Martinez’s ability to be the leader of the team as just a sophomore?
  • Lots of Luke McCaffrey hype…surprised to hear that name so relevant this early?
