Husker Baseball takes 3 of 4 games from Columbia…what did we learn?

-Windy conditions but great weather, in general, for the first home series of the year. Nebraska won the first 2 games of the series, lost the nightcap on Saturday, and won on Sunday to take the series and move to 5-8 overall

Husker baseball loses series to Arizona State in the desert, but does end 7-game losing streak

-Nebraska got blasted in the first 2 games, losing 13-5 on Friday and 14-1 on Saturday, but responded on Sunday with an 18-10 win that was aided by 5 home runs, and ended a 7-game losing streak. The record is now 2-7, but pitching is still…not good. And offense? It’s exploded in 2 games. And been OK or bad in the others.

Husker baseball has their moments, but aren’t finishing games….what are fans patience level?

-Nebraska had the big first inning in the first game of the season against Baylor that led to a win, but has now lost 5 straight games, and sits at 1-5 on the season. They lost all 3 games in San Diego this weekend, despite being in all of them until the very end. It’s not a bad team—they just aren’t winning yet

-What is fan’s patience level and what’s their interest level? Afraid to get too invested to get hurt like the other men’s programs this year?

The Will Bolt Era started with a bang on Friday, but resulted in a series loss

-The first 11 batters on Friday night in Waco scored for Nebraska in what was an eventual 19-9 win, but Nebraska lost 8-7 in 10 innings on Saturday and 7-2 on Sunday to start the season at 1-2.

-The bats weren’t the problem on Friday or Saturday, but couldn’t get them going on Sunday. Initial impressions of the team and what to expect from pitching/hitting?

-Also…Jake saw that Air Force’s football stadium hosted an NHL hockey game on Saturday night…should Nebraska use Memorial Stadium for non-football sporting events sometime, and what would it be?

Husker Baseball returns TODAY! How interested are you in Will Bolt’s first season as head coach?

-Bolt met with the media on Wednesday ahead of the Huskers’ trip to Baylor to begin the season, starting tonight with first pitch at 6:35pm in Waco

-The pitching rotation is revamped this year, with Gareth Stroh on the mound tonight; Colby Gomes on Saturday; and Cade Povich on Sunday. New names to learn…are you optimistic or not?

Early Break: Husker Baseball sits outside the NCAA Tournament as of yesterday’s projections

  • The action begins tonight, as Nebraska tries to build off of Monday’s win at Northwestern and get a nice run to end the season with back-to-back home series against Arizona State and Michigan—2 teams that are both in the Top 40 in RPI in the nation
  • It’s put up or shut up time for Nebraska, especially since they are at home. Will they show up and perform or end the season on a thud?

Early Break: What’s Bill Moos thinking right now about the future of Husker Baseball?

  • Nebraska went into Northwestern on Saturday to start a 3-game series, and walks into tonight’s game trying to avoid a sweep, as the Wildcats (now 21-22 overall and 8-9 in B1G play) beat Nebraska on Saturday, 4-2, and on Sunday, 10-2.
  • Nebraska has lost 8 of its last 11 games and now is 23-18 overall and 12-8 in conference play—and actually in jeopardy of missing the B1G Tournament—in a conference they were in first place in not long ago
  • Bill Moos has the golden touch right now for athletic programs…how does he assess baseball? And how do you go about firing a Husker legend like Darin Erstad?

Early Break: Husker baseball takes Sunday’s game against Iowa, but loses the series, including an epic implosion on Saturday

  • Nebraska wasted another excellent outing by Matt Waldon on Friday (7.2 IP, 2 ER, 6K), losing 3-2, and then imploded on Saturday, falling 17-9, before winning 3-2 on Sunday to avoid the sweep
  • Darin Erstad says his guys competed all 3 days, and they did..except for the last innings of Saturday’s game…do you still have major concerns about this team’s chances of doing anything in the postseason?

Early Break: Darin Erstad says he hates everybody he plays against—is that normal or is he just overly intense?

  • Erstad met with media yesterday before the team heads to Iowa for a weekend series, and said that he hated teams when he was playing, and he still hates them now as a coach. Nebraska fans generally ‘hate’ Iowa and Wisconsin in sports, but do they hate anyone else?
