Bill Connelly’s ESPN SP+ ratings for 2021 have Nebraska as the 30th best team in the country next season

-*Insert eye roll here*…NO! STOP THE EYE ROLL! The ratings focus on 3 things: returning production, recent recruiting, and recent history. Nebraska is not at 30th because of recent history…so the other factors are why they are as high as they are

-Other 2021 opponent rankings: Oklahoma (3), Ohio State (4), Wisconsin (9), Iowa (16), Michigan (23), Minnesota (31), Purdue (40), Michigan State (59), Northwestern (75…wow), Buffalo (77), Illinois (83)

-Also, Marty Schottenheimer passes away at age 77. Most wins by an NFL coach ever to not have won a Super Bowl.

The Drive: June 12th, 4pm – Are College football players worried about their safety first

  • ESPN surveyed a whole bunch of them, and it seems like mostly, there won’t be any sort of issues here. These guys want to play.
  • We’ve heard at least a little dissension coming from the NBA side of things, but my guess on that is that it would mostly be from teams who have no chance to compete for a title.
  • Leave the bubble at some point? Conference Finals?

  • What’s in the Box (Raisin’ Cane’s)

ESPN’s Bill Connelly points out a few things that need to happen for Nebraska to make a leap this year and going forward…how likely is that to happen?

-Connelly wrote that Nebraska needs to have redshirt years pay off for talent freshmen; the defense needs to defend the run better; and Nebraska needs to rediscover offensive efficiency (fell from 42nd to 86th last year in rushing marginal efficiency)

-Nebraska has yet to really become good in stopping the run in the Big Ten, and they’ve almost been in the league for 10 years. How has it taken so long for Nebraska to become even respectable in that unit consistently? And also, interesting numbers on Adrian Martinez and his struggles with passes to the sidelines…yikes

The most interesting trade in NFL history could be on the horizon and it DOESN’T include any players…or coaches!

-The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reported Thursday that ESPN is planning on trying to trade for NBC’s Al Michaels to do Monday Night Football, and be teamed up with Peyton Manning

-NBC would likely have Mike Tirico elevate to Sunday Night Football with Chris Collinsworth if this was the case….what exactly could ESPN offer NBC, though? An endless amount of money? What a fascinating idea this would be…ESPN needs to fix it’s dreadful MNF broadcast and now that CBS has Tony Romo booked for $18 million per year, it’s time for them to take action
