Erik Chinander says Nebraska has a long ways to go to catch up to power football teams….how long is that, exactly?

-Chinander spoke Tuesday after practice and mentioned that it’s going to be a while before Nebraska beats the likes of Michigan and Wisconsin with their power running offenses…the question becomes with Nebraska’s ideal brand of offense, will their defenses ever be ready for that type of attack?

-Can you form the current players into a team that is able of stopping those teams or is it all new players in a new recruiting philosophy?

-More from practice on Tuesday:

Lots of new faces being talked about with the offensive line…how long of a leash do the starters have?

  • Tanner Farmer moved to first team center on the newest depth chart, and Boe Wilson is at right guard, backed up by Trent Hickson…and Will Farniok is making some noise, too
  • Will Frost be hesitant to make any more changes on the line or will he ride it out with what he has?

  • How much does Karrington Davis’ injury affect Nebrasketball’s depth? Where was he at in terms of role off the bench?
  • Is this the week for Scott Frost’s first win at Nebraska? Could it start a run, if so?
  • Is Nebraska’s defense improving at all?

The offense appears to be getting better for Nebraska, are we sure the same thing is happening for the defense?

  • 3 games of 500+ yards of offense is great, even if lots of those didn’t end up in points and if they were “empty yards” at ends of games…but still, there is evident progress there
  • Can we say for sure that the defense? The sacks have slowed down since the first two weeks, and the run defense hasn’t been good for several games. They’re experimenting with new personnel in the secondary, but that’s not the only problem. Are we seeing progress with the defense?

A bummer for Nebrasketball as Karrington Davis is out for the year with an Achilles injury

  • Davis wasn’t expected to be part of the starting lineup, but was someone that was thought to be a contributor off of the bench. How concerned are you about the depth of Nebrasketball right now?

Could Nebraska 3rd down woes on offense be solved by targeting RBs more in the passing game?

  • We got a glimpse of what Maurice Washington is capable of in the receiving game against Wisconsin, and it makes Jake wonder that when Nebraska faces the 3rd and short and 3rd and 7s of the world, could they catch defenses off guard by getting creative with ways to get Washington/Ozigbo/other RBs open in the flat and let them be elusive to get the necessary yardage? Defenses are already scared of Spielman/morgan as WRs and pay lots of attention to them…catch them off guard and let a RB outrun a LB in coverage

Nebraska is 0-5 right now, but it’s not crazy to think that they can win their next 3 games before the monster that is Ohio State

  • Wait, is this POSITIVE SEGMENT from Sip & Jake?! That’s right—Northwestern will be a challenge and likely a close game, as always—but Nebraska plays well there. Win that game, and then you have the monkey off your back. Then, it’s Minnesota (average at best), and Bethune-Cookman (FCS Team). 3 game win streak is possible…
  • And, as long as you don’t get completely demoralized by Ohio State (ex. 77-3)…you have every reason to think you can beat Illinois (better than past years but still not great) and Michigan State (good, but not great, and a home game). And then—Iowa! Imagine how this season would turn if you won every game the rest of the season except for Ohio State. HOO BOY!

Is October the best sports month of the year?

-Playoffs/World Series in baseball, big NFL/college football games, NBA begins and more….best of the best or not? What month tops it?

-When does Nebraska get their first win?

-Is it possible to ever fix the penalty problem that has plagued this team for years?

-Are you expecting any in-season attrition going forward now that the 4-game redshirt rule is in play?

Is there a part of you that thinks this Nebraska team can thrive in the ‘nothing to lose’ feeling for the rest of the season, or will they fold up shop?

-If it’s the ladder, and they quit and its easy to see, boy oh boy do we have a problem going forward. If it’s the former and Nebraska thrives in the underdog role and spoils team’s seasons with a nice win or pushes them to the brink, it’s something to build off of. Nebraska really, really needs that to happen.

-Avoiding embarrassment going forward is the goal, as well as winning games. If Nebraska continually gets blown out, can you take any positives from that as you try to build for 2019 and beyond?

The MLB Wild Card game is the most brutal playoff game in all of sports and Jake wants to tell you why

-A sudden death game for a 162 game season?! The NBA’s playoffs probably go on for way too long, but even they know that giving a one-game playoff to get into a series is ridiculous after an 82 game season. How is that even an option on baseball? Think about this: tonight’s Cubs/Rockies game in the NL will feature 2 teams that won 90+ games. Both will only have 2 more total games on the season than an Orioles team that was miserable and other pathetic below-.500 teams. Talk about a lack of reward for a fantastic season…

-Can we proclaim Ohio State as B1G champs after their win against Penn State in fantastic game at Happy Valley?

-How exactly do you assess the B1G after 5 weeks? Disappointing or still a factor on the big stage?

-Can anyone in the world touch Alabama?
