The Drive: March 24th; 5pm – We have a list of bad CFB hires

Happer stumbled upon a list of the worst head coaching hires in CFB.

  • Nebraska has two guys on the list.
  • Mike Riley has more wins than Scott Frost.
  • Was the University ever fully committed to previous coaches?

Nebraska has had issues with turnovers and penalties for years and years and years….are they cursed or is there actually something that can be done to change it?

-Nebraska averaged 2.75 fumbles per game in 2020, which was 130th in the nation. 22 fumbles in 8 games (9 lost). It’s been a problem in the Frost era all 3 years, and a problem before that, too. Nebraska simply doesn’t just lose the turnover battle—they get blasted in it

-Beyond just saying they have to fix it in practices and in the offseason, what can actually be done? We hear it every year, and it never really improves. How do you fix turnover problems and discipline with penalties? We’re sick of Groundhog Day!

The Drive: October 13th, 5:45pm – Wrap things up

  • Nebraska alternate jersey announcement, what does it mean?
  • Today in Bo Pelini drama

Rick Kaczenski (Former Nebraska/Iowa DL Coach)

-Is anyone close to Clemson in college football? Alabama’s defense looked horrid on Saturday…

-Usually, defenses are ahead of offenses in the early parts of the season, but scoring has been high in college football…what’s the biggest reason?

-Bo Pelini’s defense is off to a historically bad start at LSU…how much patience will Ed Orgeron have?

What a fun weekend it was for college football…offenses were booming and big wins were had

-Does the SEC play defense anymore? LSU had another hideous defensive performance in a loss against Missouri (Hey, Bo!); Alabama and Ole Miss are still scoring points at the moment, and Sip’s boy JIMBO got a big, big win against Dan Mullen, who wants 90,000 fans in the stands next week at home!

-Also, Clemson takes care of Miami, Mike Leach has lost his offense already, an EPIC Red River Rivalry ends in an Oklahoma win, and how about Kansas State and Iowa State…the teams to beat in Big 12?

-Other takeaways from the weekend…

The SEC returned to play over the weekend, and things are starting to feel a little bit normal….right?

-What a glorious sight it was to have more games, and more ranked teams playing. Sure, you had the drama in the Big 12 with Kansas State coming back to beat Oklahoma, and Texas having a miracle in the last few minutes to survive Texas Tech…but that was only part of it!

-How about the Pirate, Mike Leach, at Mississippi State? Stanford transfer QB KJ Costello threw for an SEC record 623 yards (!!) in his first game as a Bulldog, and made Bo Pelini’s defense at LSU look bad in a defeat. Also—Florida puts up a 50-burger on Ole Miss, but the Rebels offense looked solid..

-Also….are Miami Hurricanes good, or is Florida State THAT bad?

The series continues: Sip’s top uncomfortable moments with coaches in his time covering Nebraska sports

–Yesterday, we learned about Sip having to get away from Charlie McBride and have a screaming match through a closed elevator door; and we also learned about the time when Sip stopped Danny Nee’s criticism of him being a bowling reporter in one quick quip, and also the time that Sip cost the Journal Star $60,000 because of a poor reference of a used car salesman

-What’s next today? Surely some stories of encounters with Bo Pelini…what about Bill Callahan?
