The series continues: Sip’s top uncomfortable moments with coaches in his time covering Nebraska sports

–Yesterday, we learned about Sip having to get away from Charlie McBride and have a screaming match through a closed elevator door; and we also learned about the time when Sip stopped Danny Nee’s criticism of him being a bowling reporter in one quick quip, and also the time that Sip cost the Journal Star $60,000 because of a poor reference of a used car salesman

-What’s next today? Surely some stories of encounters with Bo Pelini…what about Bill Callahan?

What If Wednesday: What if Bo Pelini had won a conference championship in either 2009 or 2010?

-A new weekly segment, with the question posted by the esteemed executive producer, Alex Baker the Oatmeal Maker. And, with Bo being in the news with going to LSU… what better way to bring it back to Nebraska?

-2009 would have been an upset win, with Texas the favored team in that game, but Nebraska’s defense obviously was incredible, and was one second away from a victory. Would Nebraska have left the conference if they won that game? Things were already locked down for Nebraska to leave the conference for the 2010 championship game, so there’s not quite the same question for that year.

-How hard is it for a college/professional athlete to focus and concentrate after a tragic event like we saw with Kobe Bryant’s shocking death on Sunday?

-What’s the biggest thing that needs to happen for Nebraska to have a year in 2020 like Minnesota had in 2019?

Bo Pelini is officially back at LSU as their new defensive coordinator…will you adopt LSU as a 2nd team now or stay far away as possible?

-Just because a guy didn’t get you to where you want to be, doesn’t mean you have to hate the guy forever. Yet, Bo is a divisive person in the fan base. Is it that hard to root for him to have success as a DC at LSU?

-You’d think that this week we’ve learned more than ever about the brevity of life. Life’s too short to hold a grudge on somebody forever, right? Let’s be better people going forward and support Bo.

-FootballScoop reports that Bo Pelini is a strong candidate to go back to LSU to be their defensive coordinator…is he as good as Dave Aranda was?

-This would lead some to believe that Bo could be ready to get back into head coaching in the Division 1 ranks (after a few years) at LSU…are you surprised he hasn’t been at a D1 job since getting fired at Nebraska?

-Chiefs/49ers for the Super Bowl in just under 2 weeks…which team do you like more in that game?

FootballScoop reports Bo Pelini is a strong candidate to become LSU’s new defensive coordinator…get ready for national mockery of Nebraska

-We’ve already been bombarded with national mockery of the Joe Burrow situation, with Burrow saying that he wanted to go to Nebraska but didn’t get recruited…. and he follows all that up with the best season ever by a QB in college football history. Cool.

-Now…if Pelini gets the job, think of the story line. Burrow wasn’t good enough for Nebraska…and Pelini getting 9+ wins every year for 7 straight years wasn’t good enough, and now you’d kill to have even 7 wins as a program…oh man this could be tough

What are the biggest reasons why we believe Scott Frost’s tenure at Nebraska will be better than Bo Pelini’s?

-This is not meant to be a diss at either coach; it’s actually an interesting question. Pelini took over a 5-7 team when he started in 2008, and his second season, he delivered the nation’s top defense, and was one second away from winning the Big 12 Championship. Optimism was high, and in his third year, they again made the Big 12 title game, but blew a 17-0 lead and loss to Oklahoma. He won at least 9 games every year, and appeared in 3 of 7 conference title games

-What is your biggest reason why you think Frost can get over the hump that Bo was so close to getting over but couldn’t? There’s a chance that Bo’s first and second seasons deliver better results than Frost’s first 2 seasons, but there still could be valid reasons to believe in Frost more than Pelini. Interesting dynamic.

-Also, sidenote: great story by Adam Rittenberg of ESPN on Ndamukong Suh’s 2009 season
