Iowa basketball is good this year, but they pissed off a legend to great lengths on Sunday / Shut Up Sipple (sponsored by Bagels & Joe)

-Iowa AD Gary Barta announced following Iowa’s win against Wisconsin that the university would be retiring Luka Garza’s jersey for what he did in his illustrious career there

-The issue? Garza just this year broke the scoring record of Iowa great Roy Marble, who led the Hawkeyes to their only 30-win season ever, an NCAA regional final, and a Sweet 16. And his No. 23 jersey isn’t retired. And his son, Roy Devyn Marble, who was a very good player at Iowa—is PISSED, as is his family

Sip and Jake lament Nebraska’s lack of All-Americans in the last 10 years

-They make a depressing  comparison to the likes of Ohio State, Iowa and Wisconsin who have developed several All-Americans the last 10 years.

-They wonder what the path is to getting more All-Americans in scarlet and cream.

Corporate sponsorships have entered a new world…Michigan State basketball now has a ‘presenting sponsor’

-Yesterday, Michigan State announced that Rocket Mortgage will be the presenting sponsor for the next 5 years of Spartan basketball, and they’ll be known as “the MSU Spartans presented by Rocket Mortgage”

-With NIL coming soon, are we prepared to see more of this, and more logos/patches on player jerseys/helmets/etc. with business names on it? Is that attractive to you or unattractive?

Is anyone in the B1G ever going to catch up to Ohio State football?

-Sip and Jake have argued about what Nebraska needs to do most, and finally Sip has come around to Jake’s argument that Nebraska needs to have eyes focused on simply winning the division—THEN you can start talking about the conference championship being the goal. Can’t just jump to it right away.

-Still, even winning a division title leaves you a ways behind the Buckeyes. They are a machine that just won’t stop, and just finished as runner-up in last year’s college football season. It might be awhile for Nebraska…but is anyone in the same boat or close to Ohio State? Is anyone even catching up?
