Fremont Golf Club

Our inaugural 2019 ‘Early Break’ Golf Tour begins with Fremont Golf Club! What a tremendous looking course it was. I played the tips (black tees–6,532 yards) and was blown away by how green the course was. You can tell how well maintained the course is from the get-go, as the putting green was a gem, and was an accurate depiction for how the greens on the course were. The course isn’t long, but pretty much every hole is tree-lined, so if you find yourself erratic off the tee, prepare for a tough day of scoring. If you can keep the driver in the bag and hit long irons or a hybrid consistently straight, you’ll have a chance to score well.

The unique feature of the course is the train track that goes through the middle of it. The 18 holes are pretty much divided right in the middle of the tracks, so you’ll go across them several times in the round to get to your next set of holes. I thought it was impressive how they fit 18 holes into smaller area of territory than usual—it seemed like a puzzle piece in how they fit all the holes in, which was creative.

My high school golf coach always told me that Fremont Golf Club had some of the best greens in the state—he was right! The greens were true and quick, but not unfair. They’re also receptive if you play a lot of spin on chips or in general when hitting into the green. Also–the bunkers were redone last year and they are immaculate. I had just played golf at Torrey Pines in San Diego the week prior, and the sand was identical to that sand–which are often described as some of the best bunkers in all of golf.

I highly recommend a visit to Fremont Golf Club! If you have a Nebraska Golf Passport, you can play the course. Otherwise, it’s a private course, so membership is required to get on. They always have great membership specials going on, so check them out to get more info.

Early Break: Does Bill Moos’ handling of men’s basketball make you believe he can do the same for baseball?

  • He wasn’t replacing a legend in men’s basketball, but he was replacing a lovable guy. Baseball, however, has a legend coaching…you can’t fire him unless you have something good lined up for sure, right?
  • How would people feel about firing a guy like Erstad? Under performing program, but is it something you’re willing to live with? Or does it need to improve with someone else leading?

Early Break: The inaugural 2019 Early Break Golf Tour begins with….Fremont Golf Club!

  • Every Monday throughout the summer, Jake will review a golf course who signed up to be on the Early Break Golf Tour, and this week, it’s Fremont Golf Club. What’d Jake think of the course? Tune in…
