Early Break: J.J. Watt planned on winging his speech to Wisconsin’s graduating class and he’s never seemed more cool

  • Watt said he was asked to send a copy of his speech to the University of Wisconsin for their May 11th commencement, and told them he didn’t have a speech because he just planned on winging it. Bravo, J.J. Screw the scripts…stay in the moment!
  • Jake and Sip have had their various speeches to different groups…would they do a large commencement speech without a script, though?

Early Break: Parker Gabriel (Lincoln Journal Star) / Shut Up Sipple

  • What’s the scoop on Nebraska’s newest defensive tackle, Jahkeem Green?
  • What exactly went wrong with Caleb Lightbourn? How did he fall apart so much as a punter?
  • Overall impressions of Spring Game and what’s the schedule like going ahead for the summer…?

Early Break: Do you feel yourself starting to become less cynical with Nebraska athletics or are you still skeptical?

  • We are still seeing people on the text line and Twitter saying to stop drinking the Kool-Aid, and that’s fair, since football went 4-8 last year and basketball might have a rough first year with so much to replace
  • But this place has been full of a lot of people sarcastically saying, ‘next year,’ in all sports. People thought we kept showing up for games in sports and just going in circles of mediocrity. Do you still feel cynical until you see the results or do you feel like you believe in this place becoming elite in the main programs?

Early Break: Rick Barnes might regret how transparent he’s been in the aftermath of him choosing to stay at Tennessee

  • Barnes told reporters Tuesday that if UCLA had been willing to pay his buyout at Tennessee, he’d likely be the coach at UCLA. Why would he admit that? What do his players say in response to hearing that?
  • Also, SONG OF THE DAY:

Early Break: Fred Hoiberg makes another appearance on national radio with Doug Gottlieb

  • Scott Frost went on a lot of national radio when he was hired at Nebraska, and Tim Miles did eventually after he had success at Nebraska…but it took him having success for people to want to talk to them. He wasn’t a ‘big get’ for radio when he was hired, and that shows where Nebraska is in present-day
  • Hoiberg discussed how he got Doc to come back, his thoughts on Nebraska’s chances to create something special, and more. Play the hits!
